Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) encompass a rich tapestry of ancient wisdom and knowledge from the Indian subcontinent, spanning philosophy, science, mathematics, medicine, spirituality, arts, and more. Rooted in India’s cultural, spiritual, and philosophical heritage, IKS offers a holistic approach to understanding the universe and our place within it.
This course not only explores the depth of IKS but also highlights its relevance today, offering insights into sustainability, holistic health, and ethical philosophy through the lens of Sanskrit, the language that has carried these traditions through millennia.

Introduction
Welcome to “Sanskrit: A Gateway to Indian Knowledge Systems,” a course designed to bridge ancient wisdom with contemporary learning. Through the foundational language of Sanskrit, this course aims to unlock the vast and diverse vocabulary of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) that reflects the multifaceted nature of this ancient body of knowledge.
Objectives
- For Beginners: This course is tailored for beginners and requires no prior knowledge of Sanskrit, making it the perfect starting point for anyone curious about IKS.
- Learning Goals: Participants will gain an introductory understanding of key Sanskrit terminology, the philosophical underpinnings of IKS, and the ability to approach ancient texts with a new perspective.
Expected Outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will have:
- An introductory knowledge of the IKS corpus and its significance.
- A foundational understanding of Sanskrit, enabling the exploration of IKS texts.
- The ability to understand IKS vocabulary.
