Introduction

Sri Ramana Maharshi is a pre-eminent sage who lived in the 20th century. His unique journey is unparalleled in the annals of history. He realized the Eternal Truth and the Self-Supreme as a boy. This was without any initiation by an external Guru. It was without theoretical knowledge or study of the Sastras and Scriptures. And it was without resorting to any kind of ritualistic worship.

Having realized the Eternal Truth as a teenager, he taught the direct way to Self-knowledge, peace and happiness to people for over half a century. Very often, philosophic thought gets bogged down by dialectic disputes about the nature of God, the nature of the world and the individual’s relationship to them. Sri Ramana Maharshi steers clear of this quagmire by focussing attention on the essential technique to discover one’s true identity.
