Subramania Bharathi, popularly known as Bharathiyaar, was not only a revered poet, freedom fighter, and social reformer but also a visionary who used his writings as a powerful tool to ignite patriotism, unity, and social change in India. His poems reflect a blend of devotion, nationalism, and revolutionary fervor, showcasing his unwavering commitment to freedom, equality, and justice.
In this INDICA Course, we will explore Bharathiyaar Paadalgal, or the songs of Subramania Bharathi, a collection of inspiring Tamil poems. These works cover a wide range of themes, from the celebration of India’s cultural heritage and the call for independence from colonial rule, to the advocacy for women’s rights and the upliftment of the oppressed. His vibrant language and evocative imagery capture the emotions and aspirations of a nation yearning for freedom. The rhythmic and lyrical quality of his poetry, combined with its profound messages, have made his songs timeless, continuing to inspire generations. This course introduces learners to the verses of Bharathiyaar’s poems (with English translations), exploring his philosophy and how his poems became a powerful tool of nationalism. The course also offers a deeper understanding of how Bharathiyaar has been revered for his contributions, alongside the historical and literary context of his work within Tamil literature.
