Introduction

यदिहास्ति तदन्यत्र यन्नेहास्ति न तत्क्वचित् is a famous saying about Maharshi Vyasa’s Mahābhārata. Indian Knowledge System (IKS) is just not a phrase but eternal wisdom stored in our great epics and scriptures continue to have a universal appeal and relevance. Vidura-nīti, an extract from Mahābhārata, is timeless as it addresses the universal human challenges of power, desire, conflict, and morality. Its guidance on how to think, act, and govern ethically remains deeply relevant in personal, social, and political spheres. True leadership arises not from lineage or power but from integrity, clarity, restraint, and compassion.

The present course is designed to highlight the salient features of the teachings in Vidura-nīti. The wise Vidura minces no words in criticizing and pointing out the mistakes usually committed by kings or leaders. Without attempting to administer a sugar quoted pill, the minister conveys his message in direct and hard-hitting manner.
